One of the simple pleasures of living in New Zealand is spotting a kererū in the neighbourhood.

Whether it's perched in a backyard tree, helping itself to berries or quietly watching the world go by from a nikau palm, the kererū is always a welcome visitor. Large, colourful and completely unbothered, they have a habit of making themselves at home in our gardens and residential streets.

Local Lookout captures one of those everyday moments—a local kererū perched amongst the foliage of a nikau palm, keeping an eye on the neighbourhood from its favourite lookout.

It's a gentle celebration of the native birdlife that shares our towns and cities, reminding us that some of New Zealand's most memorable wildlife encounters happen just outside our front door.
