Since 2005, New Zealanders have enthusiastically cast their votes to crown Bird of the Year, celebrating the remarkable native birds that make Aotearoa so unique. Along the way, the competition has become much more than a vote – it's sparked conversations, friendly debates and a growing appreciation for our extraordinary wildlife.

Winged Wonders brings together every Bird of the Year winner since the competition began in 2005, creating a colourful celebration of New Zealand's most loved native birds. Each illustration marks a winning year, from the much-loved Kākāpō and iconic Kiwi to the elegant Kererū, spirited Pīwakawaka (Fantail), majestic Kea, striking Kōkako and many more.
